Our experience, namely, experience in diagnostics and determining the causes of malfunctions, engine repair and mechanical processing of parts, forensic examination of malfunctions, as well as engine modifications, their forcing, and the design of special parts for them, is based on the experience of leading specialists. This experience has been accumulated over many years, and most of the results achieved are presented in A.E. Khrulev's book "Repair of Foreign Car Engines" (Moscow: Za Rulem Publishing House, 1998, 480 pages), in Part 5, "Researching the Technical Condition of the Engine," of "Expertise of the Technical Condition and Causes of Malfunction of Automotive Equipment" (authors A. Khrulev, S. Losavio, V. Drozdovsky, Moscow: ABS Publishing House, 2019, 966 pages), other books, as well as in numerous articles in various journals. OUR BOOKSOur first book, "Engine Repair for Foreign Cars" (by A. Khrulev, Za Rulem Publishing House, 1998, 440 pages) Many call it "The Engineer's Bible." .
This book of ours describes in detail the theory of internal combustion engine operation, engine design and malfunctions, and contains very detailed practical recommendations for their repair. It examines the techniques and methods for overhauling engines in foreign-made passenger cars and minibuses, provides recommendations for mechanical and thermochemical treatment of parts, and methods for diagnosing and monitoring various systems, units, and components. Advice is provided on choosing the most effective type of repair work, equipment, tools, and tooling, and extensive reference material on foreign engines from the 1980s and 1990s, their spare parts, and components is presented. This completely unique publication is notable for the fact that since its publication in 1998-2001, for over two decades (20 years!!!), this book has not only remained the only publication of its kind, but has also become a classic! Moreover, numerous efforts by jealous businessmen to diminish its importance to the engine industry have proven futile – our book is immune to any printing marvels, domestic or foreign. Even half-century-old American translations of wisdom on repairing ancient Chevy engines were of no help!
However, it's never too late to warn copyright infringers who occasionally appear: The rights to publish the book "Repair of Foreign Car Engines" belong solely to the author! Therefore, references to parts of the text and illustrations that you so love to borrow from our book without indicating the source are required! Otherwise, you're simply turning yourself into cheap plagiarists and copy-pasters.

Our next, second book, "Expertise on the Technical Condition and Causes of Automotive Malfunctions" (by A. Khrulev, S. Losavio, V. Drozdovsky, ABS Publishing House, 2019, 966 pages), has long since been published! This book presents completely exclusive data on malfunctions of various automotive components and assemblies, including the engine and transmission (including automatic transmissions), as well as paintwork. We have endeavored to cover virtually all issues related to engine malfunction investigations – from correct terminology to the consequences of unqualified repairs. This is a detailed exposition of the entire chain of actions associated with investigating the causes of a malfunction, including not only a detailed description of the symptoms of a huge number of different malfunctions, but also the actions of various individuals involved in this process, including familiar characters such as particularly "knowledgeable" and the most "advanced" "experts." All of this, of course, is accompanied by full-color photos and drawings—more than 1,000 of them for the engine alone! Today, this is a completely exclusive edition, even in global practice—no one else has ever produced anything like it! By the way, the book's exclusivity lies not only in its length, the number of color illustrations, and the breadth of its coverage, but also in the fact that it is the only independent publication that is officially approved by the renowned German company Kolbenschmidt (MS Motorservice)! With permission from ABS Publishing, we have prepared a high-quality portion of the book especially for you to review. Now, in And, of course, we eagerly await the response of our old acquaintances, the envious and spiteful critics – what book will they publish tomorrow to counter ours? Although we understand that an attempt to go against Kolbenschmidt himself seems downright suicidal to them....
Our brand new book has been published — where would you think? By a true European university publishing house — in Slovakia, at the University of Zilina! And in English, of course. Our new book has a rather clever title – "Modeling of local damage in automobile internal combustion engines." In it, we covered several little-studied problems, including of so-called local abrasive wear in engines. This is when everything works fine for a long time, but suddenly, bam, only a few parts in one cylinder are completely worn out. Previously, in the vast majority of cases, the cause of such anomalies was immediately blamed on a manufacturing defect, with all the attendant consequences, including experts whining about the wrong material used for the parts. But we went further – we simply identified a new, previously unexplored wear mechanism in internal combustion engines. The essence of the matter is simple. If even a small amount of dust passes through the air filter (and about 0.2-0.5% of all dust does), these particles can then be redistributed among the cylinders in different ways. And if clever designers have created a clever variable-length intake manifold in the engine, rest assured – all the dust can easily end up in just one cylinder, causing localized abrasive wear. This wear can significantly reduce the engine's lifespan. The book also contains research results on other types of localized damage — from hydraulic lock and insufficient lubrication to overheating of valves and the entire engine as a whole when coolant leaks. For your viewing pleasure, we've prepared the book in high quality, and now in View our other booksOUR INVENTIONSOur inventions could be consigned to history, as they were made long ago. However, since one of our inventions was not only implemented but successfully used in mass production of automotive equipment, we consider the topic of inventions important. Moreover, the vast majority of our competitors don't even know what it is. Our "Distribution mechanism" with hydraulic valve clearance compensators occupies a central place, without a doubt. This invention was developed specifically for classic VAZ engines and was subsequently successfully used at AvtoVAZ in the mass production of engines for the Chevy Niva. Two more very interesting inventions concern the ICE oil filter and the oil level monitoring system using indirect parameters. Our oil filter concept revolved around a design that, unlike traditional filters, prevented particles trapped by the filter element from reentering the engine when the bypass valve opened (similar designs were later developed by some filter manufacturers). Our low oil level indicator device, however, allowed for early detection of low oil levels by detecting a drop in oil pressure during engine speed gain (based on the difference in the signs of the derivative signals from the pressure and RPM sensors). Well, the remaining inventions are dedicated to "top secret" developments in small and micro turbojet engines, in particular, the rotary turbojet engine and its highly sophisticated rotating vortex combustion chamber. You can view and easily download/view our inventions, which are recorded in View inventionsOUR ARTICLES
The Library is a collection of almost all of our articles, published over more than 20 years since 1997, collected in one place. The articles cover virtually all topics of interest to a motor mechanic – from the design and production of various types of engines to the specifics of operation, malfunctions, diagnostics, inspection, and repair. Particular attention is paid to repair – this includes machining technologies and equipment, assembly techniques, spare parts selection, and many other topics. In addition, an entire section is dedicated to engine tuning and boosting. Our experience is most popularly presented in a series of articles on engine topics published in the journals "Automobile and Service" , "Proper Auto Service," "Autotransport," "Chief Mechanic," "Selkhoztekhnika," and others, most of which are posted on our website. This is more than 150 articles. However, our "golden fund" is, of course, scientific articles in various scientific journals and collections, as well as abstracts and presentations at scientific conferences, symposia, and congresses. This is more than 70 publications. Articles are available for viewing in the following formats: pdf – requires downloading if you have an application like Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. html – articles in this format can be viewed directly on the website. And of course, we sincerely hope that somewhere else there is a library not even like ours, but at least close to ours! Note: articles highlighted in red are the most recently added, with the file size in parentheses. To fill this gap and help those in need, we've created a special section on our "Motorists' Forum," or rather, an entire online library, called "ENGINE TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDES." In this library, we've tried to collect all the most important sources on engine malfunctions that are well-known and popular among motorists – around 20 of the most important and interesting reference books on damage and malfunctions of engine components and parts – pistons, rings, liners, valves, gaskets, spark plugs, clutches, and much more. And now any motor mechanic can always find any book from the most famous motor parts manufacturers – Mahle, Kolbenschmidt, Elring, Clevite, King, Beru, Luk, Bosch and many others – all in one place, without wasting a single minute of their precious time. Our library is gradually being updated with new books, and outdated ones are being replaced with newer ones. Moreover, any of our readers can download the latest book updates directly from the manufacturers' websites – we provide all links to the original sources. View reference booksOUR RECOMMENDATIONSSome of our materials covering engine repair and equipment use were not included in books and articles or, for one reason or another, were not published in paper books and magazines. This is not a problem – some of these articles (and there are more than 30 articles!) can be found in the "WE RECOMMEND..." section. In addition, we sometimes describe some curious and instructive cases from our repair practice, which can be viewed here. OUR PROFESSIONAL MOTORIST FORUMOur MOTORIST FORUM, despite constant attacks from envious and spiteful critics, since its inception in 2004, has become a true symbol of professionalism in motor repair and has already become a public platform that easily rivals some well-known online media outlets in popularity – individual threads have received over 2,000,000 views! And with over 8,000 threads and 120,000 posts, our forum has long since become a reference book, and perhaps even a true daily newspaper for professional motorcyclists! Go to ForumHome |
